I have a new toy. A Flip video camcorder. Here’s my first movie. Starring Skippy. He doesn’t do much. It was a very lazy walk around the Pond on a beautiful day.

These are some photos from Skippy’s walk. The lighting was fantastic. The woods glow. Lots of yellow and orange leaves this year. Less bright reds. Amazing how busy the chipmunks were. I suppose they’re gathering and hiding food. They scurried across the paths and rustled in the fallen leaves. Skippy had a nice swim in the water hole and then ran like a crazy dog. He likes the crisp air.

end of the season harvest

(click on the photo for vegetable names) It was a good day for harvesting. Sunny and dry. No frost is in sight yet, but the days are getting so short and the warm weather crops aren’t growing any more. I spread everything out before packing it into bags. I picked all my chiles, eggplants, squashes, onions and pumpkins. Many of the onions hadn’t bulbed, but they are nice “spring onions”. These beds are now ready to clear, compost and seed with cover crop. I picked two heads of savoy cabbage…

“For a few summer weeks it is good to live as if this earth were heaven.” Leslie sent this Hawthorne quote. I think Skippy knows how to appreciate summer. He runs til he’s exhausted. Then sleeps hard.

I’ve been forgetting to photograph Skippy recently, though he’s as cute as ever. My son took this picture last time they were down under the kitchen table.

Yours truly takes a break from chasing rabbits. So cute, under the Queen Ann’s Lace and through a fogged up camera lens. I had to go replace my cell phone today, because all the humidity on Wednesday corroded the battery contacts. But my camera seems none the worse for the wear.

I forgot my regular camera lens today and was looking for a subject for my macro/portrait lens. Skippy! He got a bit annoyed with me, but he’s awfully cute….

Skippy in the woods – tick disease problems

The woods near my garden are so lovely now. The ferns and grasses are lush. And so many woodland critters. Skippy and I enjoy a nice evening walk on the paths. But I’m feeling badly for Skip. He had a check up with his veterinarian yesterday and he is positive for three of the four local tick-borne diseases. He tested positive for Anaplasma and the Lyme and Rocky Mountain Spotted fever pathogens. His doctor said, the good news is he doesn’t have Ehrlichia (the fourth local tick-borne pathogen). And, she…
