Skippy’s new collar

We went camping in the backwoods of New Hampshire this past weekend, so I bought Skippy a new collar. Bright day-glo orange – since its open deer season. I like the way it stands out again the drabness of the November landscape. It was Skippy’s first time tent camping and he did a good job. He hiked in the woods, guarded the camp site and then slept soundly. He had his own mat next to me in our cozy 4-season, two-“man” tent. Not the best weather to be outside. About…

Topic: A PWD in the white house? The First Portie? Dear President Elect Obama, My name is Skippy and I’m a Portuguese water dog. First, may I say that you have made my family very happy by winning the job of President of the United States of America! How awesome! But I write on a personal issue. I heard your family is deciding on a type of dog to get. I heard that your daughter is allergic and I heard one of the breeds you’re considering is a PWD! And…

Skippy’s big hole

Usually Skippy is very calm and obedient. Today was different. He got that look in his eyes and he wanted to PLAY. To get my attention, first he dug a hole in the middle of my garden, then the bit a few holes in the cuff of my pants, then he stole the bag of tulip bulbs I was planting. OK! I get it. Time for a walk! posts about Skippy

I thought the weather was clearing when I went to the plot today. But no! Just as Skippy and I got there, the sky opened up. Skippy was pleased when I grabbed the tarp that covered my lawn mower and propped it up with garden poles. The two of us sat on a towel under it (Skippy is such a clean dog..) and watched the downpour. It lasted about 15 minutes. After the downpour ended I worked in the drizzle, but Skippy was very glad to stay under the cover.…

Skippy and the great pumpkin

For years I have been trying to grow a giant pumpkin. I am so pleased to harvest this beauty today! Here it is. Fully documented with photos. The variety is Big Rock, seeds are from Johnny’s. I grew four plants – two at my community plot and two at home. Only one fruit set – this one! It bloomed in late July at my community plot, grew fast, then turned orange this week. It was resting a rock and got a bit scarred on one side before a fellow gardener…

Our community garden paths are lush now with the tall grasses and weeds of midsummer. So different from the mud paths and bare fences of spring. I’m hoping to get some time to weed whack a bit this week, though it is a busy one. It would be a perfect time to spend a morning in the garden searching through the squash vines and bean plants to see what’s going on. Skippy would like that too. It was pointed out to me that I haven’t been adding many photos of Skippy. And after all – its HIS blog! Well, here he is. He posed for a few shots at the community gardens, and a few shots caught him in action. The last two shots show Skippy at the swimming hole. This brook runs near the community gardens and is full to the brim with all the rain we have had this week. Skippy had a great swim! more pictures of skipposts about Skippy
