I’ve been working hard this summer on Aurelia’s Garden, a non-profit company I started with a several friends. We’re growing vegetables for donation to local food pantries. We’ve grown and donated over 2,000 pounds of produce this year to Open Table of Maynard, which serves Middlesex county (in Massachusetts) officially, but actually serves anyone who needs food.  We are now in our fundraising month and we are asking for contributions so we can expand our cultivated space next year with a goal of quadrupling our donations. Please consider a donation.…

our irrigation system is running!!

We finally have running water in the field at Aurelia’s Garden, our food pantry donation project. We made it through a couple dry weeks maintaining our newly planted seedlings by slogging water in buckets from the nearby swamp. It’s a big relief to turn on the pump and have plenty of water pumped to our plants. The system has large (2 inch) feeder lines, all sorts of connectors and valves running into plastic drip tape. We can run any set of lines at one time. It’s a low pressure system…

out with the cabbages, in with the tomatoes

My little unheated hoop house is working out very well this year. On Sunday I brought all my tomato, pepper and basil plants down to the hoop house. We’re working on getting grants to fund supplies like equipment and compost. Also working on getting some good buys on equipment like wheel barrows, shovels, etc. It sounds…

I’ve gotten together with a group of gardener friends who have free time since we can’t do much of anything now. There likely won’t be any food shortages due to the corona virus, but there is always a need for fresh vegetables. We have found a nice piece of land that will be loaned to us. We’ll grow food crops and donate our produce to local food pantries. We plan to donate mostly to the Natick and Framingham pantries. I don’t know how we’ll get everything done yet. We’re working…
