Hi, my name is Kathy.
Welcome to Skippy’s Vegetable Garden. We’re located near Boston, in eastern Massachusetts, USA (USDA hardiness zone 6A). I’m a biochemist and I garden as a hobby.
This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog, a Portuguese water dog with a fantastic personality. He thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. He was a great gardening companion and now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps.
I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden (365 square feet), fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family’s vegetables myself.
I have to admit that I garden mostly because I think vegetable gardens are beautiful. I love rows of seedlings, patchworks of greens, baskets of bright vegetables. I love the way gardens change with the seasons. My camera is my most important gardening tool.
This blog is a way to record what’s going on in my garden, to get advice from other gardeners and hopefully to inspire new gardeners. I am very enthusiastic about my hobby and love to share the experience of vegetable gardening.
