Skippy in his shady spot

Skippy has dug a BIG hole under his shade cover. Its the only place in the garden he’s allowed to dig. Must be cooler down there. We’ve been at the garden on some really hot days this past week.

My husband made Skippy a shady spot to hang out in. I call it his “crate”. He loves it. Its the only spot in my garden where he is allowed to dig. He digs out a nice cool hollow in the damp earth and lies down in the shade on a hot sunny day. And I can sit next to him and use the top as a table. Not too bad…..

Here’s my handsome Skippy. He’s nearly 6 years old now. Very dapper in his new haircut and still one of the fastest dogs around.

Still deep snow in the community garden plots. But at least it has compressed enough so we can walk on it. Skippy and I walked in to look at my plot for the first time in two months. Its still snow covered. Except around the compost bin.

this is our backyard

Our backyard is buried under snow. Yesterday Channel 5 said, “Boston has had a colossal 70 inches of snow!” Don’t we know it. Skippy gets to run around in series of paths we have dug. The 5 foot fence is now standing only a foot or two above the snowdrifts. The snow is glazed with a layer of ice, but still loose underneath, so we can’t walk on it. What a winter!

Merry Christmas

Skippy had a great time opening presents at midnight – early Christmas morning. He was like a little kid, and the 3 of us like big kids. Skippy used paws and teeth to carefully tear off paper – especially when he could smell a treat inside. He got his very first frisbee of his own, a new dog bed, a fluffy shearling ball, and lots of treats.

Skippy and I took a walk around the big pond today with lightly falling snow. Its our first snow in the Boston area. I brought my camera and took photos of the birds and ducks (and Skippy). I’ve done my best to name the ducks. Please let me know if any are misidentified. Mallard male male Ring-necked ducks female Ring-necked sleeping Canvasback male Hooded Merganser male Hooded Merganser female American coot a puffy mourning dove (with blue eye shadow) And finally – Skippy! (lightly sprinkled with snow) These ducks (and…
