January community garden plot

The low sun is making a prism of light across my camera lens. In the foreground my pear tree branches are budded and braving the cold. Winter rye is growing in a few beds, green manure to turn under in the spring. The garlic bed is covered with salt march hay and I’m imagining healthy garlic root systems. I see some arugula that is still green. My compost bin was full to the brim in the fall. I ended up with a big pile of debris that wouldn’t fit in.…

October backyard

Not too bad for a cell phone photo! I forgot my camera at my parents’ house last week. I’ll have to make the hour trip back up there to get it soon. I set this photo as my desktop background. This afternoon the dogs and I took the row boat across the pond to conservation land under those tall pines you can see. We walked on the trails for an hour. The broccoli is trying to broc again, but may not make it. Green beans are still making a few pods. Shell beans are finishing up. The peppers are going strong. I guess they’ll go right up to a frost.

garden in the rain

I went out in the rain today to check my garden. I got totally soaked because I couldn’t just check the garden fast as I had planned. Once there I had to weed and take pictures. I only had my cell phone, so they aren’t the best photos. Skippy and Suzie came too and played while I wandered in the garden. We all got soaked. The photos remind me of things I need to do in the garden. – The old pea vines need to come out. I’m waiting to…
