It is COLD today. BBRrrrr. The birds are huddling in the bushes next to the house all puffed up and fluffy. I just remembered to put the heater in the little fish pond out back. Just in time as the surface has almost frozen over. Last year I lost my koi because I waited too long. Its 18*F and windy this afternoon.

store bought vegetables

My garden supply of fresh vegetables has ended. I still have lots of root vegetables, squash and pumpkins, but I’ve run out of greens. Today I bought a fridge full at the supermarket. Maybe its just that I don’t usually go through the vegetable isles, but I had fun seeing all sorts of new things on the shelves. Something called Chinese broccoli looked interesting. I bet it’ll be good chopped and stir fried. I wonder if this is a good home garden crop? And I was amazed at all the…

Skippy sits

Skippy often sits on a stool or a step and I think its so funny. I’ve never seen a dog sit like this. When I laugh and get my camera, he gets an annoyed/embarrassed expression. Today he sat on the stool a long time, waiting for me get ready for a walk. He knows I’m slow and it takes a while to remember all the things I like to bring: treats, treats, mittens, treats. I don’t want to forget anything. Anyway, Skippy was very patient and very cute.

computer colors

I am editing my blog template because of my new computer (a Sony Vaio). The colors are so much brighter. I was complaining about this at first, but it seems the problem may have been that my old computer was getting dull. In any case, the whites looks much better on my new computer than the green background, which was so bright I couldn’t see the pictures. Another problem I’m having is with installing PhotoShop. After 17 tries, I guess I need to call for help. So I’ll post unedited…

fresh new dirt – time for new gardens

Skippy and I went over to the community garden plots today. Its been a while since we’ve been there. As Bruce said – lots of new dirt has been cleared for new plots. I think we can make a dozen new plots. And the dirt looks dark and rich. Amazing how much a big ole backhoe can do, compared with our little shovels. Seeing all this new dirt is as exciting as the beginning of a new gardening year. I suppose its as good a time as ever to call…

expanded community gardens!!

Big news at the community gardens! I got a call this morning from Bruce, the garden coordinator, and a big new section of land has been cleared and leveled for our use!! We’ll be able to add maybe a dozen more plots. Bruce says the new dirt looks incredibly rich and black. Ahhh. Just thinking about new dirt is so exciting. Skippy and I will go over and look soon. I’m looking forward to photos.

new computer

It was time to replace my nice old computer. Its a big project to transfer everything. The email, the files, and then all the programs. And I’m trying to get the same color settings. I have to get used to slightly different spacing of the keys. And a different touch pad. It may take me some time. I wish there was an easier way.
