Wouldn’t it be nice to grow a real watermelon! This is my prize – not. Oh well…. Only 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 6.5 oz in weight. I was hoping it would get bigger, but this week I noticed it made a hollow sounding “thump” when I thumbed it. Ripe! Sure enough, its was nice and red inside. Sweet and cute as could be. Just way way too small.

I guess it didn’t get enough of some important nutrient to grow large. Probably not enough sun. I have another little one just now forming on the vine. I wonder if this will do any better. These striped melons are supposed to be big ones.
