Hannah just sent me this link for Clyde’s Sliding Garden Planner on my/Skippy’s On-Line Garden Planner page. It looks really cool. I sent in my $5 to try this out!

Julia and Rebecca easily won the Giant Vegetable Contest at the Belmont Victory Garden Seed Swap and Garden Harvest Celebration yesterday. They entered a 20.6 lb pumpkin grown by Belmont High School Girls Cross Country Team. They ran up at the last minute to see if they were in time for the contest. They were. Congratulations to the whole team! The big pumpkin has been growing all season in the Coach’s plot. The team often runs the 2-3 miles from the High School to the gardens and tends the plot.…

– Thanks to Botanical Interests for providing fantastic seeds for the gardeners. These were definitely a hit.– Things gardeners brought and swapped included bean and carrot seeds, and raspberry divisions.– The swappers toured the garden paths in the drizzle – an area of over 1 acre with about 120 active plots.– We ate 2 loaves of my pumpkin bread. seed swap was fun
We are rating the 1st Belmont Victory Garden Seed Swap and Giant Vegetable Contest as a very fun success. Despite the terrible weather. I stopped counting at 12 attendees, but suspect about 20 people came. In rain coats and umbrellas. Gretta informed us all about local gardening. We consumed lots of pumpkin bread and shared lots of seeds. Later I will add more details, post photos and announce the Grand Winner of the Giant Vegetable Contest.
Belmont Victory Garden Seed Swap and Harvest Celebration
Terrible weather is predicted for tomorrow. Windy, thunder, lots of rain. 🙁 The Belmont Victory Garden Seed Swap and Harvest Celebration (scheduled for 2-4 tomorrow) will play it by ear. We prefer to go on as scheduled. We will hope for a miraculous 2 hours clearing. If this doesn’t happen, we will post a sign at the garden and try again on Sunday. Hardy Hydrangea, Hydrangea Quick Fire™. This is a new bush in my front yard. Its been in bloom all summer. I’m wondering where I could squeeze in more. It started blooming as a white lace cap and gradually turned pale pink, and now a deep rich pink. Wonderful.
This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy thinks the garden is his, even though I do all the work. We're located near Boston, in USDA zone 6.
