butterfly milkweed

summer garden 085
It was a big surprise to me to find this bright orange Butterfly Weed today! A few years ago (2008) I bought seeds of Asclepias tuberosa, a native orange milkweed. I raised a couple small plants and tucked then in a few different spots in my garden. Then I forgot about them. I never expected then to survive. What a joy!

  • Those are gorgeous! I love milkweed – I always let it grow in my gardens. It only comes in pink around here though!

  • I keep looking at milkweed in seed catalogues and always say I will order them, but so far have not done so. I hope to actually do it for this next year. I think that the orange is what I would want to order.

I recently found a tiny orange gallardia that I thought had died two years ago doing quite well this year. Imagine my surprise.
