My scilla is in full bloom now. I looked up when it bloomed in previous years: April 24, 2007, April 22, 2009. Its 2 weeks early this year! I think everything here is at least 2 weeks early this year.
I have a few that are early too ! .. that blast of actual heat we had a few days ago forced them up a little early I think .. I love seing them no matter the time ? LOL
We've noticed the same thing around here. Our last frost date seems to be a full month earlier than usual and everything is blooming at once. It's beautiful.
I don't know if mine bloomed earlier than usual or not but it sure is pretty this year: http://gardenonsherlockstreet.blogspot.com/2010/04/siberian-squill.html. I'm planning to add more this fall.
Hello there! That's a beautiful flower. Any idea if it grows in tropical climates?
That's an amazing picture ! Here in Maryland everything is early too – I saw the first swallow yesterday and they always come back around April 23, never this early.Kind of creepy ….
We're running at least 2 weeks early here too. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop with a frost, but there's nothing in the forecast. Usually my containers warm up much more quickly than the ground, but this year the perennials in the ground are actually ahead of the ones in the containers.
Why wait for the other shoe – go with the birds and flowers.
Scilla grows in USDA zones 2-8. But I don't know what zone "tropical" is.
Everything where we are is late this year (England). It has been a very long cold winter for us. The flower look great though. Thanks for posting
Here in Indiana we have set 3 high temp records in the past week! It has been a balmy 80+ the past week when it should be in the 50-60 temp range. My peas are already 5" high and had chives out of the garden. Broccoli is going in the garden today! Is it safe to say that most climates have shifted almost a zone higher? Indiana has always been in Zone 5 but it is starting to become Zone 6.
Seems like this year the east coast zones are shifted. But I think last year was cool and we were a zone shifted the other way.
Just wrote about my love of scillas this morning. Lovely little spring blooms!
