snow amounts

With another 10 inches of new snow on the ground, I’m hearing all sorts of snowfall stats on TV. We have had 50 inches of snow so far this year. Last year we had a grand total of 17 inches all winter. The average winter snowfall here in the Boston area is 43 inches. So, we’re having a wild winter. And March is yet to come and often very snowy.

  • That is a lot of snow. I remember all that snow when I lived in New Hampshire. I have had a grand total of zero this year. No snow for me. Hope you don’t get any more snow and that spring comes fast for you

  • Well if its going to be cold, I’d just as soon have the snow to make everything bright. Skippy just LOVES the cold and snow. He thinks its great.

Saturday, when I was watching the Spring Training coverage on NESN (Yes, I have dish network solely so that I can get NESN!!!), Don Orsillo and Tom Caron made a point to say that everyone was glad to be in FLA and NOT in the Boston snow storm!

  • Its actually really pretty again today. I should take a photo of the ice that collects on my neighbor’s bush under her broken downspout. Very pretty with the sun on it.

I expect more plants to come through the winter this year because all the snow has helped insulate the ground when it got really cold. Last year there was no snow cover to help insulate the plants and I lost a few that were supposed to be zone 6 hardy. I actually pile the snow onto the flower beds when I clear pathways to keep them snug.

So, I see on the weather report today (Tues.) that New England will be getting another winter wallop to add to your snow total!

  • Yes, the snow should be good for the plants.

As for this storm, I think our forecast is no more than another inch or two for the rest of the month. We’ll mostly get rain tonight. There is a bitter cold night coming up soon though. Aarrgh.
