I planted a few tomatoes very early (February 21) and transplanted them and some peppers to bigger pots yesterday. The 16 varieties planted last weekend have all sprouted.
My tomato varieties this year are: Hillbilly, Purple Calabash, Brandywine, Giant Belgium, Cherokee Purple, Sudduth’s strain Brandywine, Opalka, Box Car Willie, San Marzano, Oxheart Red, New Girl, Early Girl, Orange Blossom, Big Beef, Pink Beauty and Sungold.

I planted Roma, Juliet(grape), and Early Girl back on March 20. They are just now ready for transplanting to a larger pot.

The packs were full of pansies when I bought them. Wish I had a few more big packs, but only have two. I have more peppers I’ll need to transplant soon.
Too bad its hard to find different sizes of multi cell trays around.

I live out in Marlborough, your blog has been great, really helps me with timing.
One question – How many hours per day do you have the lights on over your plants? I have a similar set up in my sun room, and only do about 5 hours a day to supplement the natural sunlight, but your plants look further along than mine
Maybe I just planted earlier?
My plants lights are on about 9 am to 9 pm. The bulbs are about 2 inches from the leaves. Even so my seedlings are a bit leggy. The shorter the plants the better. If yours are getting more sunlight than mine, they may have just as many leaves but be stockier, which is better.
I am starting seeds indoors for the first time. When do you fertilize and what with? You have given me the inspiration to grow lots more seeds in the future!
I use potting soil with 3 mo fertilizer already in it so I don;t fertilize the seedlings.
